Ethephon is a widely used plant growth regulator that influences several physiological processes in crops
With Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/215, amending Annexes II and V of Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 and published on 29 January 2026, the European Union has revised the maximum residue levels (MRLs) and the residue definition for ethephon in cereals, aligning it with the definition adopted by the Codex Alimentarius.
The new requirements have been applicable since 19 August 2026.
Neotron provides a dedicated analytical method specifically developed to determine the parameter "Sum of free ethephon and its conjugates, expressed as ethephon" in cereal matrices, in full compliance with the requirements established by the current European legislation.
The method applied by our laboratory is also aligned with the technical protocol developed by EURL-SRM, described in the document: Analysis of the Sum of Ethephon and its Conjugates by a Modified QuPPe Method
Through this approach, we provide reliable and compliant results to support producers, processors and stakeholders throughout the cereal supply chain in meeting the latest regulatory requirements.
