Cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, represents a significant risk for food safety due to its resistance to high temperatures and standard food processing conditions.
Recent recalls involving infant formula have highlighted the need for proactive monitoring and increased regulatory attention. Failure to detect cereulide may lead to serious health risks for consumers since unlike many other toxins, cereulide can persist in food even when the bacterium itself is no longer detectable.
Detecting Cereulide requires advanced analytical techniques. In Neotron testing is guided by EN-ISO
18465:2017, by means of LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) method with
LQ=0.050 ug/kg on infant formula and LQ=0,20 ug/kg on vegetable oils. Both matrixes are accredited at
Neotron laboratory.
Our method ensures reliable results thanks to the application in the extraction phase of what reported by
EFSA.
